Zwickau Prophets, The

An early sect of Anabaptists at Zwickau in Saxony, who sought to establish a Christian commonwealth. Led by Nicholas Stork, a weaver, they were also known as the Abecedarians, because they relied on direct inspiration from God, rejecting all learning as a hindrance.
